Today was a fun day. Most of it was spent doing different odd jobs around the house. As i said in an earlier post the Western Tanagers are back at the house and today was the first sighting of the female. The males have been around but not consistently. This female was more cooperative then any of the males I’ve seen. Not the greatest shot but the first I’ve taken of a tanager digitally.

I spent most of today looking out my window with the 600 waiting for the tanagers to come in. They like the bird bath setup under the Aspen trees, so i was hopeful they would show up. They never did. But the front yard right now is covered with Lupin in bloom, so I played with them a little. Then in photoshop I played with them some more. It’s a little more artistic then normal but I think it’s cool.

I know I needed to blog because my dad kept saying why haven’t you blogged, why haven’t you blogged. The past few days I have been trying to think of something to blog. Since I have not gone out shooting lately, it made my decisions a little more difficult. Today I had a my upper wisdom teeth pulled, so I knew I wouldn’t get out  shooting today like I wanted too. But that gave me time to go through some of the images from redwoods. I felt like there was more that I wanted to show that I had not already. These were two of those images.

Meet the Neighbors

Well I wasn’t expecting to blog again today but what do you know, the bears came back. It’s obvious when the bears are here because the dogs go crazy, running around barking, trying to give themselves a heart attack. Of course they aren’t always right, but this time they were. The Sow was at the feeder, with the cub higher up the tree. The Sow is average size for this area, probably around 200 Ibs. The cub isn’t that old, maybe a couple months, but obviously this Spring. They apparently like this neighborhood because this is the second time I’ve seen them here at the house and they like to graze on the nearby lawns. There also seems to be a Sow with two cubs around, but I haven’t seen them yet.

I know I haven’t blogged lately, I seem to have a mental block right now and don’t really know what to blog. Could be because I haven’t done any shooting this past week, was busy getting house work done. Also the Grosbeaks haven’t been around, as apposed to last week. Last night I drove up to the Lakes Basin seeing what it was like up there right now. When I was up there I got an idea for a shot using light painting. It had to do with one of the lakes and the bridge going over that lake. However it was very windy, making the water ripple and not that good for a reflection. Part of the shot I saw in my head had a this great reflection in it, so I decided to wait until it was calmer. It got me thinking about this shot though. I took it a while ago in Banff Canada. Never did anything with it, and didn’t have a blog back then. So I thought I’d share it now.
