Snow Patterns

While we’re well into fall the snow hasn’t started to pile up here in the north. The few small storms that have come through have coated the mountains but little else remains. In order to get some snowy images I had to travel west to Lookout Pass. While there is usually more snow on the ground this time of the year, right now you can still go out and get some great transformation images showing the end of fall and the beginning of winter.

Snow is very seductive because the white adds a natural contrast to the landscape. When combined with a little light it can be used to create some very dramatic images. In the mountains it’s the relationship between the darks of the forests, the whites in the snow and the light creating a bridge between the two that makes it interesting. To isolate the areas of interest I used the D4 and 70-200 VRII.
